Detroit Pistons

The Pistons fall into a similar category as the Spurs, as they are rebuilding, have financial flexibility and a need for a veteran point guard.

Currently, the Pistons have just Jaden Ivey and Marcus Sasser as backups to Cade Cunningham and neither of them are really a point guard.

Trajan Langdon, the former GM of the Pelicans, took over as president of the Pistons and is well-familiar with Lonzo’s work from his time in New Orleans. That may or may not work in his favor, but there is connection there.

Detroit can’t draw free agents, so Lonzo would be a low-cost risk that could net them an impact talent at a position of need.

Both the Spurs and Pistons have available second-round picks and expiring contracts to flip, and in the case of Detroit, around $10 million in cap space to absorb a bigger deal.
