Chicago Bulls trade Lonzo Ball and Zach LaVine to the Detroit Pistons for Evan Fournier
Ouch.
This would be the Bulls waving the white flag on their attempts to get an asset of any type for LaVine, instead dumping his contract on the Pistons for nothing.
Detroit would have to pick up the $19 million team option on Evan Fournier’s corpse and the Bulls could either waive him or stick him on the deep bench for a season.
Either way, they’d come out with around $46 million in cap space and a chance to reset their roster around Coby White, DeMar DeRozan, Alex Caruso, Nikola Vucevic and whatever free agents they could get with the cap space.
The Pistons get LaVine for nothing but the cost of Lonzo Ball, who could help them if he’s healthy. It’s doubtful new team president Trajan Langdon would want to go all-in like this in his first season, but it would be a way for Detroit to improve immediately without giving up any of their young players.
The Bulls get off LaVine and a chance to start over without completely rebuilding.
There are even wilder options.
