Donovan might be contemplating a move already
In April, reports started to surface that Donovan might be a candidate to replace the outgoing John Calipari at the University of Kentucky. According to CBS Sports, Matt Norlander, Donovan was contacted by Kentucky, but the University was unwillingly to wait until the end of the NBA season for Donovan to make a decision.
When asked by reporters, Donovan downplayed the situation and said, ""I have not been contacted by anybody, I haven't spoken to anybody," Donovan told reporters, adding that his answer would remain the same even if he was contacted. "My total commitment and focus is here to this team and to this group."
A solid statement by Donovan, but not necessarily a definitive no. Nobody was questioning his commitment to the Bulls. Although committed to Bulls, he did not state if if he was interested in the Kentucky position or not. Kentucky went another direction, but it does make you wonder if Donovan is entertaining other offers.
Billy Donovan will be in the Hall of Fame at some point in the future and it will be well-deserved. As time moves forward, his tenure as the Chicago Bulls coach will be a footnote to his overall successes. It does seem evident, Donovan's time in Chicago is coming to close one way or the other.
