Ironically, the 2025-26 Knicks are stirring up Dynasty Bulls history.

Friday, the New York Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs to take a forceful 2-0 series lead in the 2026 NBA Finals.  Additionally, Friday’s Knicks victory now extends the Knicks to a 13-game winning streak in the 2026 NBA Playoffs.

NBA Communications contextualized the Knicks' game two victory over the Spurs by acknowledging that the Knicks are the third team in NBA history to win the first two games of the NBA Finals on the road.  The other two teams are the 1994-95 Houston Rockets, and your WORLD CHAMPION 1992-93 CHICAGO BULLS!

The 1993 Finals would cement a monumental legacy for the Bulls as they made their own history by successfully achieving a “three-peat” by winning consecutive NBA titles in 1991, 1992, and 1993.  The trajectory of the series is an all-time great script.

The Bulls' first two road wins in Phoenix

Naturally, Michael Jordan carried a heavy scoring load that was central to the Bulls establishing their strong 2-0 lead against the Phoenix Suns in the 1993 NBA Finals.  Jordan scored 31 and 42 points, respectively, in games one and two.

Scottie Pippen and Horace Grant took turns being the top billing co-stars to Jordan’s headline scoring.  Pippen finished game one with 27 points against the Suns, and Grant finished with 24 points in game two.

The plot thickens at Chicago Stadium

The 1993 NBA Finals were played in a 2-3-2 format, which meant homecourt advantage was scheduled in games one, two, six, and seven.  The Bulls did not have home court advantage in the series, so games three, four, and five were scheduled at Chicago Stadium.

Game three proved to be an all-time NBA thriller, going to triple overtime that ended with a Bulls loss 129-121.  Suns guard Dan Majerle was prolific, shooting 6/8 from the three-point line and finishing with 28 points for the game.

The Bulls would go on to win game four 111-105 and set up an elimination game five at home in Chicago Stadium.  The Suns played the role of spoilers with perhaps additional motivation for Bulls fans and an entire city that may have counted their eggs before the championship chickens actually hatched.

Chicago Bulls history made in the desert

The Bulls entered the fourth quarter of game six with an 87-79 lead and a simple objective for the final 12 minutes of the game: protect the lead!

The Suns had other ideas in mind and thrashed the Bulls in the fourth quarter, taking over the game lead up to 3.9 seconds left in the game when John Paxson hit the most important three-point shot of his career, a catch-and-shoot three assisted by Horace Grant, that would prove to be the game-winning shot as the Bulls defeated the Suns in game six 99-98.

Paxson’s three-point heroics would also open the door to his extensive run at the top of the Bulls front office for almost two decades.
