Josh Giddey is having an All-Star-worthy season with increased aggression on the offensive end. After an incredible stretch to finish last season after the All-Star break that many questioned, Giddey has proven that his improvements were legitimate. Even facing a tough schedule so far, Giddey has shown clear leaps as a driver and shooter to elevate his overall offensive game.
Giddey is raising his ceiling as a scorer
Like many other Bulls, Giddey was labeled a one-dimensional player when he first arrived in Chicago. His reputation before last season was a passing specialist who lacked the scoring ability to take advantage of his playmaking talent. But he’s now taken the next step to be a complete offensive engine.
This season, Giddey is averaging 21.4 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 9.3 assists per game. He’s been the driving force keeping the team’s offense afloat without its best scorer in Coby White. And Giddey’s scoring jump isn’t through some fluky hot streak either.
Although Giddey is shooting a career-best 38.5 percent from three, it’s pretty similar to his overall efficiency from last season. Rather than showing himself to be a fluke, Giddey is proving his offensive dominance without relying on the insane shooting at the end of last season. In the last 25 games of the 2024-25 season, Giddey got his scoring average up to 20 points per game by shooting 44 percent from three.
Now, his scoring is coming with more sustainable shooting and better finishing. Giddey is taking advantage of his 6-foot-8 frame to bully smaller defenders going to the rim. This has given him an additional counter against defenses that sag off him to take away passing lanes.
Giddey is putting it all together for a phenomenal offensive package. He’s embracing physicality in a way he never has before, which is doing wonders for his own numbers and his teammates. Giddey’s passing talent has always stood out in his NBA career, but he’s now able to leverage it with his scoring threat. Even if teams don’t fear his outside shot and his percentages drop, his rim pressure will keep his impact high.
The haters will continue to doubt Giddey’s improvements until he’s done it for years on end or the Bulls start winning games consistently. The team’s recent losing streak has raised questions about his offensive leap once again, but his personal production has remained constant. Giddey has been playing like a star this season, and his absence in the last two games has been catastrophic for the Bulls. Hopefully, he can return to full health and play at his newfound offensive level once again very soon.
