Former Bulls forward and fan favorite, Javonte Green, agreed to a new one-year $3.95 million NBA contract to return to the Detroit Pistons, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Free agent forward Javonte Green has agreed to a one-year, $3.95 million deal to return to the Detroit Pistons, sources tell ESPN. Green played all 82 games for the Pistons a season ago, averaging 6.9 points, 17.6 minutes and 38.1% 3-point shooting. pic.twitter.com/UNXv8bXiYu

The Pistons likely were impressed with Green appearing in all 82 2025-26 NBA regular-season games for their franchise on top of the unbridled energy he injects into every basketball possession.

Green’s lore in Bulls franchise history is forever cemented in his endless hustle, dunks, and defensive impact during his Bulls tenure from the post-trade deadline portion of the 2020-21 NBA season to the 2023-24 NBA season.

The late and legendary Chicago Bulls television color commentator Stacey King bestowed an all-time great catchphrase on Green to describe his intense game impact by confirming, “there’s five Javonte Greens out there”.
Career defining impact in Detroit
Javonte Green, on top of his league-leading availability in the 2025-26 NBA season, also made some of the most valuable game impact a bench rotational player can make in the NBA, nailing corner three-point shots.
From the left corner three zone, Green converted 48.6% of 38 total three-point attempts for the 2025-26 NBA regular season. Right corner three-point attempts proved to be Green’s super power in the 2025-26 NBA regular season as he converted 50.8% of his 63 total three-point attempts from this zone, according to NBA.com.
Green’s ability to create chaos has not waned at all since he departed from the Bulls. For the 2025-26 NBA regular season, Green averaged 2.5 steals per 36 minutes for the Pistons. Moreover, to put Green’s impact into a timely analytical context, Green finished the 2025-26 season with the Pistons posting a +2.1 box plus/minus (BPM), which grades Green as a “good starter” level NBA player, according to Basketball Reference.
Looking forward to the 2026-27 NBA season, Green should have more opportunity to display his impact with the Pistons’ 2026 NBA offseason frontcourt departures of forward Tobias Harris via NBA unrestricted free agency and center Isaiah Stewart by trade. Green has a firm advocate in the Pistons’ number one superstar player, Cade Cunningham.

Given the Pistons' underwhelming exit in the second round of the 2026 NBA Playoffs, courtesy of a full seven-game series defeat to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Cunningham needs all the shooting the Pistons can roster to keep defenses honest against the Pistons in the regular season and ultimately in the playoffs, where it counts.
It would be great if Bulls fans could see Javonte Green succeed in any other uniform besides the longstanding rival Detroit Pistons. However, his contributions to the Bulls are too great not to celebrate his individual NBA success.
