Chicago Bulls unveil unique City Edition jerseys
By Austin McGee
Coming off a 124-123 win against the New York Knicks is as good as it gets for Chicago Bulls fans this early in the season. Following a narrow loss at the hands of the best team in basketball earlier in the week, Chicago proved to be clutch despite losing the lead late into the final frame.
Bulls' guard Coby White knocked down all three free throws with three seconds to go after being fouled by New York's Josh Hart on a last-second three-point attempt. The Bulls avoided consecutive instances of heartbreak thanks to White. It would have been far more discouraging this time, as the Bulls lead the Knicks by 22 points midway through the third quarter.
While the Bulls' last-second win over the Knicks was nothing short of invigorating, another form of excitement came by way of a jersey reveal the following morning. Nike has designed a signature "City Edition" jersey for all 30 teams for eight seasons and counting. And, this season, the design is far different than that of past seasons.
Chicago's City Editions jerseys are here
The Bulls 2024-25 City Edition jersey emulates the United Center. Chicago's newest jersey features matching fonts from the exterior of the arena, a color scheme derived from both the exterior and interior of the building, and a front tag on the bottom-left part of the jersey that includes the revered "Home of the Bulls" quote originally featured outside of the arena.
For the third time in eight seasons, Chicago's City Edition jerseys are primarily white. At its inception, the Bulls' City Edition was inspired by the Chicago Flag, featuring light blue accents and the famed Chicago red. Nike and the Bulls continued to draw inspiration from the Chicago Flag for the next two seasons before going in a completely different direction for 2020-21.
The Bulls' City Edition jersey in 2020-21 was a direct nod to the Windy City's architecture. The jersey included gold for the first and only time prior to this season's iteration. Over the next three years, the Bulls reverted to a deep red color scheme, inspired by Michael Jordan, the bridges crossing the Chicago River, and the old Chicago Stadium, respectively.
Fans can purchase the 2024-25 City Edition jersey, but will have to wait until November 23 to catch their first glimpse of the Bulls suiting up in the all-white and gold look. Chicago will don the City Edition jersey eight times all season, including an appearance on Derrick Rose night on January 4. The final time fans will witness the Bulls' in the City Edition uniforms will be on March 29 in a clash against the Dallas Mavericks.
