The Chicago Bulls would love to trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo and hoped that his purchase of an apartment building in the Windy City was a clue to his next home. The Greek Freak owns five commercial properties, including one in Brooklyn and multiple in Wisconsin. He is clearly trying to build his portfolio and doesn’t have the Bulls locked in as his next destination.
Antetokounmpo has expressed interest in playing for the Bulls, but he wants out of Milwaukee because the Bucks aren’t contenders. Why would he want to jump to a team that is two games under .500 and clutching to the final spot in the Play-In Tournament? Chicago doesn’t have a co-star and is not a serious threat to land Giannis.
The Bulls could still get value by being involved in the blockbuster, but they won’t be the ones acquiring Giannis. Fans thought his latest purchase might be a tip, but it isn’t what they hoped.
Giannis Antetokounmpo adds to his real estate portfolio
The Greek Freak is building an empire, and Bulls fans know that Chicago is a great place to own property. He is purchasing in multiple locations and trying to put his vast wealth to good use. This means nothing about his future, or Giannis is also considering the rebuilding Brooklyn Nets.
Antetokounmpo wants out of Milwaukee and will have some say in his next home. He is extension eligible before next season and can be an unrestricted free agent in 2027. Every team is making offers. The winning bid will feature draft picks, young talent, and matching salaries. The Bulls could put together a package, but it is not beating some other teams.
Giannis is only ending up in Chicago if he pushes his way to the Bulls. The superstar has zero reason to do that. Fans can blame Arturas Karnisovas and his refusal to tank. If the Bulls had a better young core, Antetokounmpo may consider the Windy City. It is an iconic franchise that loves its stars. Ultimately, that is what Giannis wants, along with being on a title contender.
The Warriors, Heat, Knicks, and Timberwolves are viewed as the top destinations for the Greek Freak. All offer a chance to play with another All-Star and compete immediately. The Bulls are barely in the Play-In, and nobody expects them to make a run. Sadly, that all but eliminates Chicago from the Giannis sweepstakes.
Chicago Bulls fans need things to be excited about, so it is natural to see Giannis Antetokounmpo purchasing real estate and think it is something more than it is. Credit for finding the bread crumbs, but there is nothing at the end of this trail. Just more heartache for Bulls fans as they miss out on another superstar that could have been. Sadly, supporters are used to that.
Nothing will change unless ownership and the front office stop chasing a postseason berth over building a sustainable contender. Drafting one or having enough young talent to attract is their only path to getting a superstar. Giannis Antetokounmpo isn’t coming, but someone might if the Bulls make the necessary changes.
