As much as fans may wish for the rebuild to be complete in the blink of an eye, it will happen in phases.
So far, the Bulls have done well. The organization made key front office changes and brought in Tiago Splitter to lead the team. Just as important was bringing in Caleb Wilson, an incredibly talented young player with huge upside.
Norman Powell was also a fantastic addition this offseason, adding three-point shooting and a veteran presence to this roster.
However, because the rebuild isn’t complete yet, the Bulls must show two key things to continue restoring the franchise.
The Bulls need to show growth this season for the rebuild
If the Bulls want to continue making strides, growth will need to be seen among Wilson, Matas Buzelis and Josh Giddey. These three taking their games to greater heights will be extremely beneficial.
However, these three need to grow together as well. If they can maximize their individual talent while playing off each other well, it will cement them as the young core to build around.
This will also make them tough to stop individually, but more importantly, as a trio all on the floor together.
Although fans may focus on Wilson and Buzelis, Giddey is just as important. Lonzo Ball proved how valuable a talented point guard can be during his tenure in Chicago.
But Chicago will also need to improve defensively this season to maximize their offensive production. Teams like the Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder showed the benefit of an incredible defense this past season.
The offensive talent in the East, players and teams, will be a great challenge that should, hopefully, push the Bulls to their defensive potential with this roster.
To enhance the rebuild, the Bulls must make adjustments
The Bulls must make the needed adjustments during the season to maximize their on-court product. This will allow the organization and fans to see what the players on the roster can contribute. It will also hint at how much value they will have in the future. Consequently, the organization and fans will have a better understanding of this year's roster.
As for the offseason, the Bulls must maximize the opportunity they have. The Bulls have talented young players and a fresh start. They must prove that they can get better from this season, continuing to make the correct moves.
Overall, the Bulls are treading in the right direction. Focusing on these two things will continue to help put Chicago Bulls basketball back on the NBA map.
