The Chicago Bulls are heading into next season as one of the worst teams in the NBA. They have more talent than they did last year, but the roster still isn’t great. Chicago should be pumping most of its hopes into rookie Caleb Wilson. And in order to do that, the Bulls – and Wilson – need Josh Giddey to adjust his style.

Giddey has always been a playmaker. It’s one of his best skills. But with all the new faces in town, the Bulls need Giddey to focus even less on scoring and even more on facilitating. Norman Powell, Matas Buzelis, and most importantly, Wilson should get the most shots in Chicago. Not Giddey.

So, as the Bulls get ready for next year, that should be their focus. Giddey should be a pass-first player even more so than he has been, all so Wilson can get significant touches.

Bulls need Josh Giddey to be completely pass-first for Caleb Wilson's sake

Wilson has looked great in Summer League so far. He’s been one of the stars out in Las Vegas. He even set the record for most points scored in a Summer League debut, notching 35.

Now, it’s up to the Bulls to make sure that success carries over into the regular season. Wilson is the closest thing they have to a franchise player right now, and they need him to reach his full potential.

This summer, Chicago pieced together an okay starting five. At least, on paper. Their first five will probably be this: Giddey, Powell, Buzelis, Wilson, and Nicolas Claxton.

Of those guys, Powell is going to score a bunch. He’s a bucket-getter at heart. And Buzelis is in line for plenty of buckets, too, especially after the sophomore season he just had.

Then, there’s Giddey. For the past two years, Giddey has been one of the best players on the Bulls. His all-around game has helped lead Chicago, but now, he needs to double down on his playmaking.

Wilson needs to be a priority in Chicago. He needs to get a ton of shots up in his rookie season. He needs to be one of – if not the – focal point of the Bulls’ offense next year.

That’s where Giddey comes in. He’s already an elite passer. But with Wilson in town, the Bulls need him to focus on playmaking even more, rather than trying to get buckets every night.

Giddey needs to put his focus into setting his teammates up. Wilson, in particular. That’s what the Bulls should be looking for next season.
