Chicago Bulls' sophomore sensation Matas Buzelis led the summer league squad in scoring, averaging 22.5 points per game. However, Buzelis only appeared in two contests during the exhibition season following his All-Rookie Second Team campaign. The summer was always more of a medium to improve upon his current skillset rather than demonstrating his potential to the franchise.
Of the Bulls to play at least three games in the summer league, Javon Freeman-Liberty held the title of highest scorer. Freeman-Liberty averaged 21.0 points per game for Chicago's exhibition squad, converting 50.0 percent of his field goals, 30.0 percent of his three-pointers, and 80.5 percent of the 8.0 free throws he attempted per game.
Surprisingly enough, Freeman-Liberty ranked fourth among summer league participants in total points. The 25-year-old wing totaled 105 points across five contests. Only Sacramento Kings' Isaac Jones, Los Angeles Clippers' Jordan Miller, and San Antonio Spurs' David Jones-Garcia put the ball in the basket more often.
However, unlike the three players mentioned above, Freeman-Liberty was overlooked—he was absent from both NBA 2K26 All-Summer League Teams. Miller and Jones-Garcia landed first-team honors, while Jones made the second team.
Bulls' summer league leading scorer set to play in the NBL
Moreover, all three players will also be on NBA rosters this upcoming season. Freeman-Liberty is the lone player to take his talents overseas following his impressive summer league showing. The 6-foot-4 combo guard signed a one-year contract with the NBL's Brisbane Bullets.

Freeman-Liberty will join Jaylen Adams as the only players on the Bullets with NBA experience. Nonetheless, Australia's NBL is one of the best leagues in the world, featuring several ex-NBA players, such as Montrezl Harrell.
It's certainly a surprising advancement to see Freeman-Liberty bolt for the NBL. He's strung together three consecutive impressive G-League campaigns, including a strong professional season in 2023-24 for the Toronto Raptors, where he averaged 7.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game.
Freeman-Liberty likely opted for the NBL instead of the G-League to further demonstrate his talent, while earning a more lucrative sum. Playing overseas won't be a first for Freeman-Liberty, as he briefly suited up for Turkey's Manisa Basket before returning to the Windy City Bulls in 2024.
