Chicago Bulls vs. Detroit Pistons, Part Two is already here. On opening night, the Bulls edged out the Pistons 115–111, powered by double-doubles from Josh Giddey and Nikola Vucevic, plus a 21-point showing from rookie Matas Buzelis.
Josh Giddey's status is in limbo
However, Chicago’s most prominent trio might not be fully intact against Detroit. Josh Giddey, who leads the Bulls in both points and assists so far, is listed as questionable with an ankle injury suffered against the Cleveland Cavaliers on November 8. The floor general was also questionable before Chicago’s matchup with the San Antonio Spurs, but was ultimately ruled out just hours before tipoff.
On a positive note, Giddey returned to the game against Cleveland after briefly going down with an ankle sprain, suggesting the injury isn’t serious. He also took part in the Bulls’ morning shootaround in Detroit. Still, with Chicago not playing again until November 16—and the Pistons already dealing with several injuries—it wouldn’t be surprising if the Bulls give Giddey another night off.
Detroit reeling with injuries
Speaking of the injury-riddled Pistons, Detroit lists seven players on its injury report, including its top four scorers. Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren are questionable, while Ausar Thompson and Tobias Harris have already been ruled out.
Both Cunningham and Duren have appeared in every game this season, and they’re coming off an overtime matchup with the Washington Wizards, where each logged over 40 minutes. Cunningham’s injury appears less concerning; it’s a hip contusion suffered on a hard fall. Duren is dealing with a sprained ankle. He was initially listed as probable but was downgraded to questionable after missing the Pistons’ morning shootaround.
In addition to their top two players, forwards Thompson and Harris will miss their second and sixth straight games, respectively. With both wings sidelined, Detroit has leaned on Ron Holland II, Javonte Green, and Isaiah Stewart to fill the void.
However, Stewart is slated to miss his third straight game as he deals with an ankle sprain. The 6-foot-8 big man is listed as doubtful, making it unlikely he’ll suit up. Stewart notably torched the Bulls in the season opener, posting 20 points and 10 rebounds. If both Duren and Stewart are sidelined, expect Paul Reed to take on a sizable role against Chicago.
