Amid a weeklong hiatus, the Chicago Bulls have made a roster move. NBA Insider Chris Haynes reported on February 19 that the Bulls have waived two-way center Adama Sanogo. This comes after it was revealed that Sanogo would be sidelined for a month because of a knee injury.

Chicago has reportedly waived center Adama Sanogo
The 23-year-old big man had appeared in four games thus far for the Bulls. In 5.3 minutes per game, Sanogo averaged 2.0 points and 1.5 rebounds while converting 57.1 percent of his field goals. His most recent appearance was on December 13. Then, he suited up for eight minutes, scored two points, and grabbed four rebounds.
While Sanogo's impact in the NBA was minimal, he starred in the G-League. In consecutive seasons, the former UConn Husky was named to the G-League All-Star team. Sanogo averaged 22.0 points and 12.4 rebounds while converting 62.2 percent of his field goals for the Windy City Bulls in his rookie season.
Sanogo's statistics decreased steadily in his second season. The 6-foot-9 big man sported averages of 16.2 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks in 11 appearances for the Bulls' G-League affiliate. He converted 52.4 percent of his field goal attempts and began experimenting with his shooting range, connecting on 5-of-12 three-point attempts.
The UConn product's decrease in counting stats was likely a product of a season-long, nagging knee injury. Sanogo has been a regular on the injury report as he's dealt with an ailing left knee. Chicago's decision to waive the 6-foot-9 center was in consequence of Sanogo's newfound diagnosis that he'd be sidelined at least four weeks.
Although a harsh decision, it's anticipated that the Bulls are eager to try out several prospects as the season wears on. Chicago is in rebuild mode following the three-team trade that sent leading scorer Zach LaVine to the Sacramento Kings days before the trade deadline. Chicago notably received marginal assets for the two-time All-Star.
Despite Sanogo's unexpected diagnosis, the former Bulls will likely receive another chance to prove he's an NBA-caliber talent elsewhere. He's a walking double-double who's displayed a polished post-game through two seasons in the G-League. The powerful big man is assuredly someone Chicago could use in the near future, considering starting center Nikola Vucevic is a likely trade candidate in the offseason.
