Bulls need to ask for this Wolves player in a Coby White trade

If the Chicago Bulls trade Coby White to the Minnesota Timberwolves, they need to get back Terrence Shannon Jr. in the deal.

According to Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times, the Minnesota Timberwolves are interested in trading for Chicago Bulls guard Coby White. If a deal were to be made, the Bulls should require that the Wolves include one player in the deal: Terrence Shannon Jr. Obviously, more would have to be thrown into the trade to make it work, but Shannon, a Chicago native, is the guy the Bulls should have their eyes on.

As the Bulls look to build out their roster for the future, they already have Josh Giddey and Matas Buzelis in place. If they were looking for an ideal piece to place next to those guys, it would likely be a wing or a center. And though Joan Beringer is intriguing, Shannon seems like the better bet.

If Chicago trades White to Minnesota, Shannon should be a Bull when it’s all said and done.

Bulls should want Terrence Shannon Jr. back in Coby White trade

Shannon is older for a “young player,” as he’s already 25 years old. That said, he’s shown flashes of being a great scorer, and if the Bulls can unlock that consistently, they’ll be in a great spot.

In his 15 appearances, Shannon hasn’t been a major contributor for the Wolves this year, but his deep-range efficiency has remained impressive. In 12.9 minutes per contest, Shannon has averaged 4.7 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 0.7 assists while shooting 40.7% from the field and 20.0% from deep on 1.7 three-point attempts per contest.

When he was in the G League last season, Shannon only played four games. But in those games, he averaged 36.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.8 assists while shooting 54.0% from the floor and 36.4% from deep.

He is the exact type of player who seems poised to thrive when given real opportunities, and that’s exactly what the Bulls could provide him with.

What would Coby White-Wolves trade look like?

As for what a potential trade would look like, the Wolves are in a bit of a tricky spot. They need to match White’s salary ($12.9 million) in the deal, but since they are a first-apron team, they can’t take back more than they give up.

If Chicago wanted Shannon back in the trade, it would have to look something like this:

Wolves receive: Coby White

Bulls receive: Mike Conley, Terrence Shannon Jr., Leonard Miller (or Joe Ingles), Draft capital

That would satisfy all the financial requirements while also netting the Bulls Shannon, who could then slot in nicely to their wing rotation moving forward.

Shannon would be a great piece for Chicago to get back in a deal for White.
