The Sacramento Kings and former Chicago Bulls star DeMar DeRozan will travel to the United Center to face the Bulls this afternoon as DeRozan and his new team look to continue a six-game winning streak.
The two franchises are attempting to go in opposite directions but have struggled with those expectations this season.
The Kings hoped adding DeRozan would help them return to the playoffs after a disappointing 2023-24 season (by Sacramento standards) that saw them miss the postseason after a surprising run in 2022-23.
That's been far from the case. The Kings have already made a coaching change, firing Mike Brown and moving onto franchise legend Doug Christie. Even with the current win streak, the Kings are 19-19 and barely hanging on to a Western Conference Play-In Tournament spot.
The Bulls, meanwhile—at least from the outside looking in—were expected to finish with one of the league's worst records with the goal of holding onto their first-round pick that's owed to the San Antonio Spurs unless it lands in the top 10.
Chicago has overachieved, however, and at 18-20 is only one game worse than the Kings and also clinging onto a play-in spot.
The Bulls have been without bench stalwart Ayo Dosunmu, while Sacramento has been playing without star point guard De'Aaron Fox. Will either of them suit up for this afternoon's contest?
Bulls' Ayo Dosunmu injury status vs. Sacramento Kings
Dosunmu, who's been Coach Billy Donovan's sixth man this season, hasn't played since before Christmas after suffering a calf injury.
Unfortunately for Donovan and the Bulls, he'll be out once again today against the Kings.
He's just one member of a lengthy injury list.
Kings' De'Aaron Fox injury status vs. Chicago Bulls
Fox, who's missed his team's last trio of games, is will be out today with a hip injury.
He's the only player on the Kings injury list.
