More high-profile names appear to be available in potential trades for the Chicago Bulls every week. The six-time NBA champions were briefly mentioned as possible landing spots for Chicago native Anthony Davis and Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Those names look too ambitious for the Bulls, but the market is still open for Billy Donovan's team. Trae Young could be an intriguing option amid reports suggesting that the Atlanta Hawks are willing to move on from their star point guard.
Beyond other star guards such as LaMelo Ball and Ja Morant, the Bulls could find some much-needed frontcourt help -- especially after another brutal rash of injuries.
Robert Williams III is an enticing trade candidate for the Bulls
Since late November, Portland Trail Blazers center Robert Williams III has been considered a trade chip. NBA insider Jake Fischer (subscription required) wrote that his expiring deal (a four-year, $48 million contract he signed with the Boston Celtics) may force the Trail Blazers to try to get something in return for the former Boston big man.
Williams has spent three seasons in Portland, appearing in only 47 games due to injury, a recurring issue that has plagued him throughout his NBA career. Donovan Clingan is the Blazers' starting center, and the team has depth at that position with Duop Reath and 2025 first-round pick Yang Hansen.
The Bulls could make a swing for a player who could walk away after the season if the fit isn't the best. He is 28, seven years younger than Nikola Vucevic, with better rim-running and rim-protecting skills than the Montenegrin player.
Williams won't make the Bulls championship contenders, but for a team with so many issues on defense, adding a player of his defensive caliber could go a long way. He averages 6.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.4 blocks per game, shooting 67.9 percent from the field in 16.1 minutes per outing.
Bulls' backup bigs Jalen Smith (8.8 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game on 47.3 percent shooting from the field) and Patrick Williams (6.5 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 1.2 apg on 37.4 percent from the floor) haven't been the answer so far, making a potential trade for Robert Williams more enticing for Chicago.
He could run a dangerous pick-and-roll with Josh Giddey while boosting the defense. This is the type of low-profile move the Bulls' front office would love to make. However, this one would actually help improve their biggest issue.
