5 DeMar DeRozan trades Bulls should be exploring right now
By Tyler Watts
1. Bulls snag unprotected pick from Lakers
From the moment D’Angelo Russell signed with the Los Angeles Lakers this summer, there were trade rumors. His contract structure and immediate waiver of his no-trade clause got fans thinking. D-Lo will be on the block before the deadline, and the Lakers will be hungry to upgrade.
The Lakers had interest in DeRozan (subscription required) before he arrived in Chicago, and they may look to bring him home before the deadline, especially if LA feels like they need a third star to be true title contenders.
Russell and Gabe Vincent could be rerouted for additional draft capital to jumpstart a rebuild in Chicago. The Bulls might be able to snag multiple first-round picks in this deal, including an unprotected 2029 selection from the Lakers. Chicago would have to wait, but with the hopes of getting a lottery pick.
DeRozan will have no shortage of suitors if he hits the trade block. The six-time All-Star remains an elite scorer and playmaker. It is on the franchise to maximize his value.
Will the Chicago Bulls trade DeMar DeRozan before February’s deadline? It is the most likely scenario if the two sides cannot agree on an extension. The Bulls cannot risk DeRozan becoming a free agent and leaving. Decision time is coming quickly in Chicago, so stay tuned for all the latest.
