Since Nike took over the production of all NBA jerseys in 2017, the Chicago Bulls have been treated to a few fantastic jerseys, as well as a few duds. Unfortunately, it seems the latter is occurring more often as their creative ideas dry up. If the rumored jersey leaks prove to be true, however, this could end up being their worst effort yet.
Bulls fans aren’t the only ones suffering disappointment, as the Heat, Kings, Mavericks, Warriors, Raptors, and Rockets have all had still images leak exposing various levels of awful. Miami’s was particularly egregious, as it seems to be a massive step down from the universally beloved Vice jerseys just a few seasons ago.
Although I believe Chicago’s City Edition jersey is better than the Heat’s, we’re not exactly setting the bar high here. I believe the Bulls could have (and should have) received much more interesting threads from Nike this year. But don’t take my word for it, check them out for yourself.
Leaks of the Bulls’ rumored 2023-24 City Edition jersey are embarrassingly awful.
It should go without saying, but these jerseys are simply… not the standard of quality the Bulls should be wearing. The ‘Madhouse on Madison’ addition is a nice touch, but aside from that, this jersey is a complete trainwreck. I’m far from alone in that opinion, as fans online have likened it to a G League, practice squad, and even worse, junior college jerseys.
This is becoming a league-wide problem at this point, as each jersey that has been leaked thus far has looked like a rushed and under-designed mess. The NBA simply deserves better than the product is submitting right now.
This hits especially hard when you consider Chicago’s long history of iconic jerseys. From pinstripes to cursive front text, the Bulls are as well known for being a basketball team as they are for being a fashion statement worldwide. Looking back at jerseys of years past, it’s hard to not feel embarrassed over this.
At the very least, this appears to be a problem plaguing every other team in the NBA right now, rather than just negligence on Chicago’s behalf. If Nike has run out of ideas after just six seasons, perhaps it’s time the league gets involved and finds a more inspired partner for future seasons.
