Should the Chicago Bulls pursue Dillon Brooks in free agency?
By Sean Carroll
Dillon Brooks is stealing headlines all over the NBA. If you’re only a casual NBA fan, you’ll know him as the wing who calls LeBron James old and irrelevant while scoring a cool seven points on 3-13 from the field.
If you’re a more seasoned NBA fan, you might know him as the former Oregon second-round pick who has blossomed into a real 3-and-D rotation wing. The only problem is that he trash-talks opposing teams at almost every opportunity.
He’s riding the fine line of 16-plus technical fouls this season, meaning he is suspended for every two technical fouls he commits. Down the end of the 2022-23 season, he was fined $35,000 for the unsportsmanlike act of shoving a courtside cameraperson. And then there’s the history of going back and forth with the Golden State Warriors.
Dillon Brooks could be a buy-low player for the Chicago Bulls
Despite all these flaws, Brooks could bring something to the table that this Chicago Bulls roster desperately needs. And on the other side of the coin, all these reasons could be why the Memphis Grizzlies might let him walk in free agency.
If his non-basketball antics are getting in the way of his basketball value, he might enter free agency grossly undervalued. This Bulls team desperately needs talent as it tries to leap back into the playoffs following a down season.
