3. “Let’s get crazy”
In this final package that the Bulls could offer the Hawks, Chicago goes completely all-in and comes to the conclusion that they’re ready to make a big splash. Even if it is unlikely, I think this is an interesting potential roster shakeup nonetheless. In his deal, the Bulls land Young and John Collins, who they were interested in last summer. The big question is whether the theoretical cost would be too great. And it might be.
The cost for a Young-Collins package will likely be Zach LaVine, Patrick Williams, and a future first-round pick. And that may not even be enough in the Hawks’ eyes. At the same rate, I believe this is a fair deal for both sides. Chicago would get a completely retooled roster with a new big three of Young, DeRozan, and Collins while the Hawks would also have an intriguing core in LaVine and Murray.
If the Hawks are going to shop Trae Young this offseason, there’s no question that there’s going to be quite the market. The big question is whether the Bulls will be included in that bidding war and whether they can ultimately afford it. It’s a safe bet that Chicago does end up making a move this offseason. The question is, will it be for Young?
