It’s amazing how much one injury can completely change the trajectory of a franchise. And that’s what the injury to Lonzo Ball has done for the Chicago Bulls over the last year and a half. After another underwhelming season, the Bulls are left with more questions than answers now that the offseason has arrived.

Heading into the offseason, there’s one big question the Bulls and its front office will need to answer, is it time to break up the roster or, at the very least, retool the roster? Chicago won’t have a ton of flexibility during the offseason but if they truly wanted to shake up the roster, they could probably make it happen.

And one surprise player that could emerge on Chicago’s radar (and perhaps many other teams’ radar as well) this offseason is Trae Young. While there’s no guarantee that the Atlanta Hawks will shop Young this offseason, they didn’t entirely shut down that possibility. Generally in the NBA, where there’s smoke, there’s fire.

Would Trae Young be a worthwhile target for the Chicago Bulls?

If the Bulls get to a point this offseason where they’re ready to make a significant change to the roster, Young would seem like an ideal target. After all, with Ball likely out for the entirety of the 2023-24 NBA season, adding Young would seem like a great opportunity for the Bulls to get back on track.

But being interested in Young and willing to go all-in for him are two very different things. First, we’ll explore potential difficulties in finding a trade for Young and then we’ll offer up our three all-in trade ideas for Young that the Bulls could try to make happen this offseason.
