2. Marcus Sasser, Houston

Although he was questionable to play in the first weekend of the NCAA tournament due to a groin injury, Houston’s Marcus Sasser made sure his senior season wouldn’t end quietly by playing through the pain and delivering two explosive performances.

Limited to just 14 minutes in the opening round against Northern Kentucky, Sasser came out of the gates hot against ninth-seeded Auburn by dropping 22 points, including five long-range bombs from beyond the arc. He’ll try to carry that momentum into tomorrow’s game against the toughest

Sasser has been incredible all season long, as he joins Hall of Famers Clyde Drexler and Hakeem Olajuwon as the only Houston products to be named First Team All-Americans. He’s scored 17.1 points per game while shooting 40.3% from three-point range and 82.3% at the free throw line over the last two seasons, which suggests he can be a highly-effective shooter at the NBA level as well.

As good as Sasser has been, his status as a four-year senior and the physical limitations that accompany his 6-foot-1 height have many teams hesitant to reach for the scorching shooter.

Neither The Ringer nor NBC Sports has Sasser mocked to be selected in the first round of the 2023 NBA Draft, while Bleacher Report has him at No. 29 overall. If he slips into the second round, the Bulls could repeat history by acquiring a second-round pick to pick up an NBA-ready guard with a developed skill set, much like they did with fellow First Team All-American Ayo Dosunmu in 2019.
