Small Forward: Cam Reddish, New York Knicks
With each passing week, it feels like the Knicks’ reported asking price for Cam Reddish keeps getting smaller and smaller. Pretty soon, they’ll be giving him away for free.
I jest here, but there is substance to New York’s asking price dwindling in hopes of not losing Reddish for nothing in free agency. Considering Reddish’s minimal price — both in terms of what it would take to get him as well as how much he’s actually paid — I fully expect a few contenders to get involved in trade discussions centered around Reddish.
Cam has always been a better player on paper than in real life, but that doesn’t mean teams are going to stop trying to crack the code any time soon. If anyone could figure out how to harness his immense 3-and-D potential and turn it into something tangible, they stand to massively benefit from taking a low-risk, high-reward gamble.
If the asking price has truly fallen, the Chicago Bulls should give into temptation and gamble on Cam Reddish.
Reddish has shown flashes of greatness during his time in the NBA, but has struggled to show the consistency necessary to truly breakout. However, he’s also seen his role significantly reduced in New York, so he’s not entirely to blame for a lack of opportunities to showcase his skills. In Chicago, he’d be the primary reserve forward off the bench and would have a significant role to play on the Bulls.
The Knicks also have several interesting role players who could be used in a package with Reddish. In fact, there are three other Knicks in this list as honorable mentions. Isaiah Hartenstein, for example, is a player I strongly advocated for the Bulls to sign in free agency over the summer. If the Bulls could grab two interesting players in one move, I’d be very interested to see how things play out.
Chicago’s own Stacey King has been a big advocate for Reddish in the past, he’d likely be thrilled to see Cam in the red, white, and black. But there’s nothing he’d love to see more than this team to continue winning, so the Bulls would be unwise to give up anything substantial for Reddish’s services. I don’t expect any blockbuster moves from the Bulls this deadline, but if their appetite is large enough there are a few forwards out there worth breaking the bank for — namely Toronto’s OG Anunoby.
