Every fan base has its share of delusional fans, but I think most people can agree fans of the Los Angeles Lakers are at the top of that mountain. Being a major attraction spot as well as a legendary franchise, many think they can rip off other teams to better their own, even if the other team is its own legendary organization in the Chicago Bulls.
A couple of months ago, as the Lake Show was beginning its descent into completely missing the postseason, a Reddit user tried to come up with a solution to their woes. “Thoughts on AD to Chicago for Lavine and picks?” was the title of the post, which reads as follows:
"AD goes home to Chicago and teams with DeRozan. Lakers get a explosive athlete and shot creator with Lavine. We also get some picks back to make some more moves. Maybe go after Myles Turner to fill the center spot for AD. We also trading Russ for some role players to fill out the roster.LeBron with some younger bodies like Lavine and Turner is exactly what he needs at this stage of his career.Thoughts?"
Why yes, I do have some thoughts. First of all, the Lakers are the ones getting picks in addition to Zach LaVine?! And all it’s going to cost them is a 29-year-old center who’s suited up for 76 total games in the last two years? Yikes.
What’s worse, that might not have even been the worst proposal by a Lakers fan on Reddit. Other such offers included Russell Westbrook and two first-round picks or Westbrook plus Talen Horton-Tucker and a pick or two for LaVine.
In their own Reddit thread mocking other fans for their pipe dream scenarios to lure away LaVine, Bulls fans couldn’t help themselves.
“Always Lakers fans, man. Any superstar that drops any minute hint at leaving has already booked their flight to LA in their eyes,” said EngineeringOne9611.
“Trade Zach for a player who’s always injured, trade him for one who’s over the hill, trade him to a team that has no player even close to worth as much as him. The fans of these teams are delusional,” said emueller5251.
“Lakers fans are undisputed as the absolute most delusional,” stated kingjuicepouch.
Obviously, LaVine ending up a Laker this offseason has absolutely no shot at happening, but it’s entertaining to see fans try to convince themselves it could. Even Kings fans had their own ideas for stealing Zach away after their organization just traded away their best player.
To be fair to some of the Lakers fans in the original thread, many laughed it off because of how much Anthony Davis was being overvalued. But there were still many that didn’t see why the proposal was questionable.
Never change, Lakers fans.
