There is a large focus on what lies ahead for second-year head coach Billy Donovan and the Chicago Bulls as they take to the court in their second game post-All-Star Break on Feb. 26 against star point guard Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies. Donovan and the Bulls sat with a record of 38-21 heading into the All-Star Break last week.
And a win over the Atlanta Hawks and star point guard Trae Young at home at the United Center on the night of Feb. 24 got the Bulls to 39 wins after the first 60 games of the regular season.
There are some Bulls teams from seasons past, though, that could create some real excitement about what’s to come from the rest of the 2021-22 campaign. Three of the very best teams in NBA history post-All-Star Break are those of the Bulls since the 1990s.
Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls have some impressive teams post-All-Star Break
Two of the three Bulls teams that rank among the 20 best in NBA history in terms of winning percentage post-All-Star Break are those that featured all-time great shooting guard Michael Jordan in the 1990s.
The best team in Bulls’ history post-All-Star Break in terms of winning percentage came in 1996-97. The Bulls finished up with a record of 30-5 that regular season. That team also won the fifth of six NBA Championships with Jordan and the Bulls during the dynasty years of the 1990s.
If you take out the title from separating the 1996-97 Bulls team from the ranking of the best in NBA history post-All-Star Break, the 2010-11 squad actually ties them on this list. The 2010-11 Bulls team, led by then superstar point guard Derrick Rose, also had a .857 winning percentage post-All-Star Break. But that Bulls team finished up with a record of 24-4.
They would eventually be ousted in the Eastern Conference Finals by the Miami Heat.
The final Bulls team on this list of the best in NBA history in terms of winning percentage post-All-Star Break was the 1991-92 squad. That Bulls team finished up the season with a record of 28-6 (.823 winning percentage) post-All-Star Break. Jordan and the Bulls also won the NBA title that season.
Of course, the ultimate goal for the Bulls to round out this season will be making it to the NBA Finals, and ultimately winning a title. But it will be interesting to see how the 2021-22 Bulls team stacks up with those of years past as this season moves along post-All-Star Break.
