Chicago Bulls studs from late win over the Hawks: Ayo Dosunmu

This slot could realistically either go to the Bulls’ rookie point guard Ayo Dosunmu or newly signed big man Tristan Thompson. Both came up big for the Bulls, just in different ways throughout this game. Thompson helped give the Bulls a real jolt of energy coming off the bench when this team needed it in the second and third quarters.

For much of this game, the Bulls were getting beat pretty badly on the boards. The Hawks came up with more than a dozen second-chance possessions, obviously mostly by way of offensive rebounds. Thompson helped to stave off that issue at times in the middle of this game.

Yet, Dosunmu was also an important jolt for the Bulls at key points of this game. He had another well-rounded outing for the Bulls filling a key role in the starting unit. Dosunmu gave the Bulls a dozen points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field, 2-of-3 from beyond the arc, and he didn’t have any attempts from the free-throw line.

He also came up with six rebounds, three assists, no steals, a whopping three blocks, and two turnovers. Dosunmu probably could’ve got two or three more minutes on the floor in this game if not for some foul trouble mostly caused by him guarding Trae.

Dosunmu was part of a unanimous result for the Bulls to have every single starter as a net positive on the floor. He was a +3 in this game.

These types of efforts for Dosunmu are what the Bulls really need. Really the only issue here was the foul trouble. Avoid that, and this is the type of production that is great for the Bulls from Dosunmu moving forward.
