Chicago Bulls guards to consider after Goran Dragic signs with the Nets: D.J. Augustin

Another true veteran point guard option that the Bulls could pursue that is also currently on the free agent market is the former Houston Rockets and Orlando Magic floor general D.J. Augustin. After the Nets signed Dragic off the buyout market this holiday weekend, Augustin is actually the only remaining guard officially on the market.

The other two remaining unsigned players left on the buyout market as of the late afternoon of Feb. 21 are the former Spurs big man Drew Eubanks and Boston Celtics center Enes Freedom. But Augustin would essentially be the clear-cut best fit with the current construction of the Bulls’ rotation compared to a big man like Eubanks or Freedom.

If the Bulls did want to make a move to sign Augustin off the free agent market, they should do it before their next game out of the All-Star Break. I would imagine that move best serves two factors for the Bulls.

The first is just adding a valuable veteran voice in the locker room that can also effectively command the second or third unit playing at the one.

And the second reason why signing Augustin in the very near future could serve value for the Bulls is the fact that he could fill a depth need in the backcourt unit while point guards Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso are still out due to various injury issues.

Augustin could give the Bulls another sharpshooter and veteran facilitator of the offense to turn to off the bench. He could be a nice steadying presence to add to the bench that could play nicely off the likes of point guards Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu.
