Chicago Bulls guards to consider after Goran Dragic signs with the Nets: Wayne Ellington

It’s hard to nail down exactly what the Bulls should be looking for out of a guard in terms of the particular skill set they could bring to the table to help out this bench down the stretch this season. There are different skills that some other potential Bulls’ buyout targets on this list can bring to the table compared to the recently signed Dragic.

Yet, that doesn’t mean that someone like the 34-year-old sharpshooting Los Angeles Lakers guard Wayne Ellington can’t contribute value for the second or third unit for the Bulls right away. Ellington is still a veteran sharpshooter that can really add another dynamic to this bench unit for second-year head coach Billy Donovan and his staff.

If the Lakers are going to be reaching an agreement with Ellington to buy out the rest of his contract in the days and/or weeks ahead, that would likely mean they find another free agent they want to sign. That is certainly a possibility for Ellington and the Lakers, but that would need to be the first domino to fall in order for the Bulls to sign him for the remainder of the season.

Ellington spent most of his minutes on the floor so far this season for the Lakers playing at the two or the three. He could fill a similar role in the second unit for the Bulls playing behind the likes of star shooting guard Zach LaVine and wing Javonte Green. He could likely overtake the role in the second unit that is mostly occupied by either forward Troy Brown Jr. or sharpshooting guard Matt Thomas.
