Predicting Bulls’ next free agent signing after Tristan Thompson
Predicting next buyout addition for Chicago Bulls after Tristan Thompson: Drew Eubanks
A potential name to watch on the buyout market for the Bulls that could add a bit of a different dynamic to the frontcourt unit is the former San Antonio Spurs big man Drew Eubanks. After spending four seasons with the Spurs under legendary head coach Gregg Popovich, Eubanks was shipped off to the Toronto Raptors in a deadline day deal last week.
And it didn’t take long for the Raptors to part ways with Eubanks after he was traded to Toronto. The Raptors waived Eubanks on the same day they acquired him via trade from San Antonio (Feb. 10).
Eubanks is now one of the more intriguing names on the buyout market. And since he’s already available, it certainly makes sense for the Bulls’ front office to at least consider the idea of adding him to the frontcourt unit.
While it might get a little bit crowded in the frontcourt for the Bulls by adding both Thompson and Eubanks, they do bring different skill sets to the table. Eubanks tends to make his living off-ball more so than Thompson. He can be an effective rebounder playing at the four or the five. But Eubanks was a more effective rim protector and screener in the last few seasons than Thompson.
Really the only route I could see the Bulls taking to add Eubanks is if they really want to prioritize adding frontcourt depth for the postseason. But this definitely looks like the least realistic potential buyout addition for the Bulls since they already got frontcourt help by adding Thompson.
