Chicago Bulls buyout market targets that fit well with DeMar DeRozan: Gorgui Dieng
Floor spacing big men that can also rebound well and protect the rim could be few and far between for the Bulls on the buyout market this year. There are going to be some of the more traditional back-to-the-basket scoring big men that come about on the buyout market. But those that can space the floor with an efficient three-point stroke could be hard to find.
That’s why it’s worth noting that a potential buyout market candidate worth going after for the Bulls in the weeks ahead is the Atlanta Hawks power forward/center Gorgui Dieng. The Hawks didn’t move on from Dieng at the trade deadline, but it did look like he was at least shopped around recently.
And it still looks like there’s a good possibility that the Hawks will reach an agreement with him in the days and/or weeks ahead in order for him to hit free agency. If that is the case, he should be a consideration for the Bulls to add more depth in their frontcourt unit.
Dieng could be an interesting addition to the Bulls to be a candidate to fill the role of the backup center. He is an excellent rebounder, capable big man in transition, good rim protector, and an efficient floor spacer. In theory, his skillset should fit very well with that of DeRozan.
So far this season, Dieng isn’t getting much of a significant role off the bench for the Hawks. That has come despite a pretty efficient start to the season through three dozen games played.
