Post-deadline buyout targets that make sense for the Chicago Bulls: Tristan Thompson

One of the more obvious potential buyout market candidates around the NBA landscape post-trade deadline is the former Sacramento Kings and Boston Celtics big man Tristan Thompson. After getting shipped off from Sacramento in that big trade deadline week deal that saw the Kings land star big man Domantas Sabonis from the Indiana Pacers.

Thompson was likely included in this deal just for the purposes of salary matching. The Pacers don’t have much of a long-term role set for him in this frontcourt rotation. There is still a high likelihood that the Pacers are going to roll with the center duo of the two-way standout Myles Turner and former first-round pick Goga Bitadze moving forward.

But the Pacers did pull in the likes of the young standout point guard Tyrese Haliburton and sharpshooting guard Buddy Hield in this trade with the Kings that also netted them Thompson.

With the Pacers essentially firmly out of the postseason picture in the Eastern Conference at this point in time, expect Thompson to hit the buyout market before too long. And considering the fact that the Bulls already looked to have interest in Thompson if he hit the buyout market down the stretch this season, this should be a notable looming storyline to watch in Chicago.

Thompson would certainly be an interesting fit as a potential backup center for the Bulls. He is certainly a gifted offensive rebounder and solid inside scorer for a potential reserve big man. That would be a welcome addition for the Bulls frontcourt unit down the stretch this season.
