Trade deadline misses for the Chicago Bulls: Bryn Forbes
One potential trade deadline target for the Bulls that I’ve always been a personal fan of is the former San Antonio Spurs and Milwaukee Bucks sharpshooting guard Bryn Forbes. The postseason experience and floor spacing ability that Forbes has under his belt from his time with the Bucks and Spurs since the mid-to-late 2010s would likely be a nice addition to the Bulls’ locker room too.
It seems like wherever Forbes goes he’s consistently undervalued. While I’m not necessarily saying that Forbes is some world-beating guard that can make a huge immediate impact with any team he lands on, he is certainly still a nice piece to add to any backcourt unit.
Forbes was a solid piece that provided depth to the Bucks backcourt unit in spots during their NBA Championship run last year. In 20 games played (and roughly 13-14 minutes off the bench per game) with the Bucks during the 2021 postseason, he averaged around six points per game, one rebound, and one assist while shooting 37 percent from beyond the arc.
There was also a solid run that Forbes was on back with legendary head coach Gregg Popovich and the Spurs so far this season. But the Spurs didn’t get a whole lot in return for a veteran guard in Forbes that was averaging around 10 points per game, two rebounds, and one assist while shooting 44 percent from the field and 42 percent from beyond the arc in around 40 games played.
The Denver Nuggets landed Forbes last month in a three-team trade where he was one of the biggest names on the move. But it looks like all the Bulls would’ve had to give up to land someone like Forbes is TBJ and maybe one other piece. That would be worth it in hindsight.
