Trade deadline misses for the Chicago Bulls: Montrezl Harrell

A number of the potential trade deadline misses in hindsight for the Bulls this year are those players that didn’t wind up costing all that much for their new teams to acquire on Feb. 10 or earlier. That is certainly the case with the former Washington Wizards and 2019-20 Sixth Man of the Year Montrezl Harrell.

The consistently underrated and gritty big man wound up landing with the Charlotte Hornets at the trade deadline for a return to the Wizards that didn’t actually cost Buzz City all that much. Harrell landed with the Hornets on Feb. 10 for a return that included the likes of veteran point guard Ish Smith and big man Vernon Carey Jr.

If that’s the type of value that the Bulls had to give up to get the boost that Harrell could’ve provided coming off the bench in the frontcourt unit, it’s hard to say that pulling the trigger wouldn’t be worth it for Karnisovas and Eversley. An equivalent return from the Bulls to get Harrell from the Wizards could’ve featured someone like forward Derrick Jones Jr.

And considering the fact that DJJ will still likely be out for the next few weeks for the Bulls at the very least while Harrell is currently healthy, it would make sense to prioritize the immediate impact that the former Louisville Cardinals star could bring to the table. Harrell was definitely one of the underrated trade targets the Bulls could’ve considered at the deadline.

It will be really interesting to see what Harrell could do for the Hornets if they wind up facing the Bulls in the postseason.
