Bulls Rumors: Tristan Thompson a ‘priority’ for Chicago on buyout market
Bulls rumors are actually starting to surround the buyout market for Chicago’s front office more so than any moves they could make on trade deadline day on Feb. 10. The Bulls’ front office has stayed mostly quiet in the hours leading up to the official trade deadline on the afternoon of Feb. 10. And this is why we’re starting to see more and more rumors on the buyout market for the Bulls surrounding players such as former Toronto Raptors point guard Goran Dragic and Sacramento Kings big man Tristan Thompson.
It’s starting to look like a very real possibility that the Bulls will wind up finding help for their frontcourt unit by way of the Kings. Whether that be via a trade on deadline day or the buyout market is still yet to be known.
But the Kings do have a number of bigs that would be valuable additions to the Bulls’ frontcourt unit. Two of the names that stick out in this regard are Thompson and power forward/center Richaun Holmes.
If the Bulls were to target Holmes, it would probably have to come by way of a trade on deadline day. But Thompson could be a different story.
Bulls rumors showing potential interest from Chicago on the buyout market for Tristan Thompson
According to a report on Twitter from Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times on Feb. 10, Thompson “would be a priority on the buyout market for the Bulls”.
Thompson would certainly help give the Bulls a boost in terms of a big man that could anchor the second unit. While he certainly isn’t a great rim protector, he can be average to above average for a reserve big man in that regard.
Where Thompson really excels is as an efficient rebounder, versatile inside scoring option, and a big that can work in the pick-and-roll effectively. All of those aspects to his game do check a lot of the boxes that the Bulls are seeking out of a second unit big man down the stretch this season.
It will certainly be interesting to see how the buyout market plays out this season. The Bulls are likely going to be very involved in the buyout market with how quiet the front office remained through deadline day thus far. We will dig into the potential addition of Thompson to the Bulls analytically if this rumor starts looking like more of a reality.
