Underrated bigs for the Chicago Bulls to pursue at the last minute: Paul Millsap
Among the targets mentioned in connection with the Bulls at the trade deadline is the veteran four-time All-Star and Brooklyn Nets power forward Paul Millsap. As a player that has essentially faded out of the relevant portion of the Nets rotation, despite the lengthy losing streak they’re currently sitting on, Millsap is likely a player that is very available on the trade block.
Of any veteran big men that the Bulls could pick up to help out the team during any potential postseason run, Millsap does seem like one of the more realistic to land in Chicago. But it’s hard to tell whether the Bulls will go after Millsap on the trade block on deadline day or on the buyout market.
If the Nets aren’t able to move Millsap on deadline day, it looks like they will free up this spot on their roster by buying him out of the remainder of his contract. Since Millsap is on essentially a near-minimum one-year contract that he signed with the Nets out of free agency last offseason, buying him out wouldn’t be too costly for them.
If and when Millsap is bought out, the Bulls are likely going to be one of the top suitors looking into him. It also sounds like he would be very interested in helping second-year head Billy Donovan and the Bulls elevate their contender status and make a deeper postseason run this year.
It will be interesting to see if the Nets are able to move Millsap on deadline day, of if they take to the route of buying him out in the days and/or weeks ahead.
