Most realistic trade deadline targets for the Chicago Bulls: Dennis Schroder

The potential realistic trade deadline target for the Bulls this year that is my least favorite of any on this list is the Boston Celtics point guard Dennis Schroder. While it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world for the Bulls to acquire Schroder, there are more appealing and valuable options out there for them to consider at the deadline.

The only deal that I could realistically see the Bulls pulling off to get Schroder that really helps this rotation is by dishing out forward Troy Brown Jr. That would essentially be a player swap that matches salaries and gives the Bulls a scoring spark at a position of need in the rotation at the moment.

But there is also the aspect to consider that there could be other veteran point guards out there on the trade block that could bring more value to the table down the stretch this season for the Bulls than Schroder. Some of those names to watch could be the Detroit Pistons veteran point guard Cory Joseph and the Atlanta Hawks veteran scoring guard Lou Williams.

Two factors seem to be driving the interest that the Bulls’ front office has in Schroder. The first is the past connection between second-year Bulls head coach Billy Donovan and Schroder from their two seasons together with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Schroder had some of the most productive years of his career under Donovan’s direction in OKC.

And the second driving factor looks to be the lack of a true return that the Celtics want for Schroder. It might not take much of anything for the Bulls to get Schroder from the Celtics as Boston is looking to stay out of the luxury tax to the best of their ability.
