Each time it feels like a wave of injuries is about to pass for second-year head coach Billy Donovan and the Chicago Bulls, another bit of news pops up that counters that idea. That is the case this week as the Bulls will reportedly have the breakout rookie point guard Ayo Dosunmu out in their battle with the Charlotte Hornets on the road on Feb. 9 due to a concussion.

Dosunmu might’ve suffered that concussion when he collided heads with teammate and sharpshooting guard Matt Thomas in a loss to the Phoenix Suns at home on Feb. 7. But that’s hard to tell as of now.

The Bulls are now without the likes of three key point guards in their rotation at this point of the season. They are without the likes of Alex Caruso and Lonzo Ball along with Dosunmu.

Dosunmu entered the league’s concussion protocol on Feb. 8, with an unknown timeline for his return to the lineup.

Chicago Bulls will be without Ayo Dosunmu against the Hornets

This is not really the news that the Bulls can afford at the moment. Dosunmu was playing tremendous basketball in the last month or so. He even earned himself a spot in the Rising Stars Challenge this year.

The concussion news for Dosunmu means that there will be more pressure placed on the shoulders of point guard Coby White. And Coby just returned from an absence for a couple of games with injury issues of his own.

Since the turn of the calendar year, Dosunmu has averaged around 10 points per game, three rebounds, six assists, one steal, and 0.5 blocks while shooting around 51 percent from the field, 42 percent from beyond the arc, and 78 percent from the free-throw line.

The Bulls will continue to live life short-handed when they take on the Hornets on Feb. 9. With the likes of Lonzo, Caruso, forward Derrick Jones Jr., forward Patrick Williams, etc., not really looking to return anytime soon, hopefully, Dosunmu can recover quickly and get out of concussion protocol before too long.
