Grand prize trade deadline targets for the Chicago Bulls: John Collins

One of the potential trade deadline targets that would be very intriguing for the Bulls this year that is not often mentioned in connection with this team is the Atlanta Hawks standout big man John Collins. It’s hard to tell what the Hawks are exactly looking to do at the trade deadline. In the last couple of years, it constantly feels like Atlanta is at least kicking the tires on a Collins trade.

But that never really ever amounted to anything.

A lot of what the Bulls are looking for out of a starting power forward fits the bill of what Collins brings to the table. The Bulls need help with adding length, rebounding, and rim protection at the four. And Collins will help with all of those needs. He’s averaged around eight rebounds per game this season, one block, and one steal.

Collins would also give the Bulls another floor-spacing big man that will add a ton of potency to the offense. Having two bigs that can be weapons from essentially all over the floor in a settled half-court offense would be very lethal.

Another aspect that makes Collins a potentially interesting trade deadline target for the Bulls is the fact that he has such a bright future. Giving up a valuable trade chip such as Williams becomes easier if the Bulls are getting a young and potent forward in return.

The problem for the Bulls in trying to get a trade done with the Hawks for Collins will be similar to that of most of the other potential deadline targets on this list. The asking price might be pretty outrageous from the Hawks. Yet, that doesn’t mean that Collins wouldn’t be a home run trade if the Bulls could nab him from the Hawks without giving up way too much.

This trade deal gets the Philadelphia 76ers involved to get Ben Simmons to Atlanta. The Bulls wind up giving up a large ransom in Coby, P-Will, DJJ, and a lottery-protected future first. But it will take a lot to get Collins to Chicago in really any scenario.
