Fact or fiction on Chicago Bulls’ biggest NBA trade deadline rumors: Trading for Dennis Schröder?

Unlike the Grant rumors, this story has developed much more recently and should be something Bulls fans have on their radars in the coming days. Believe it or not, there is a sizeable chance that Dennis Schröder is a Chicago Bull a week from now.

Schröder made headlines this offseason when he infamously decided to turn down a four-year, $84 million deal from the Lakers in pursuit of more money. He would go on to be humbled by a relative lack of interest on the market, as he was consequentially forced to ink a one-year offer of less than $6 million with the Boston Celtics.

However, his tenure with Boston has been rocky at best. Schröder is averaging 14.3 points and 4.4 assists per contest, which marks the lowest points per game Dennis has posted since the 2015-16 season. A change of scenery could help Schröder return to his prior form with the Oklahoma City Thunder, where he averaged 18.9 points on 46.9 percent shooting from the field in 2020.

Whether you like the sound of this move or not, it appears the wheels have already been greased on making a move for the controversial guard talent. Matt Moore of The Action Network was the first to report on this news.

The current train of thought is that the Bulls would look to possibly exchange Troy Brown Jr. and a second-round pick to secure Schröder. This would help buy the Bulls time until Ball and Caruso return from injury, as well as open an avenue towards potentially trading Coby White for a solid defensive big man.

Considering the best play of Schröder’s career has come under the tutelage of head coach Billy Donovan, it makes sense to believe he could elevate his play under his former coach. Reports have stated the Milwaukee Bucks have also issued an offer for the point guard, so there’s still no guarantee the Celtics would prefer Chicago’s offer.
