Chicago Bulls dud from challenging win over the Pacers: Matt Thomas
This was one of those nights where it became painfully apparent how short-handed the Bulls were thanks to the lack of production from the bench. But whenever Donovan and the Bulls are working with absences of the likes of point guard Lonzo Ball, forward Derrick Jones Jr., point guard Alex Caruso, LaVine, and Coby, this is something that can happen.
One of the players that the Bulls were relying on off the bench in this battle with the Pacers was sharpshooting guard, Matt Thomas. And that wasn’t necessarily the best thing for the Bulls as they struggled to get much of any production coming from the second unit.
In his 27 minutes of playing time in this game, Thomas came up with 10 points on just 3-of-9 shooting from the field, 2-of-8 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. He also gave the Bulls two rebounds, one assist, no steals, no blocks, and no turnovers.
Thomas was just one of two players for the Bulls on this night that was a negative when he was on the floor. He and two-way contracted shooting guard/small forward Malcolm Hill were the two negatives on the floor in this game.
This just looked like a game where Thomas was a bit overconfident with his shot selections. Multiple three-point attempts from above the break from 32+ feet from the basket is bold shot selection for someone that tends to thrive shooting from the corners.
