Bulls rumors: Tyus Jones could be an all-around better fit than Dennis Schroder

A personal favorite under-the-radar potential trade target of mine that the Bulls should definitely consider if he’s available at the deadline is the underrated Memphis Grizzlies guard Tyus Jones. The 25-year-old 6-foot point guard and former Duke Blue Devils stud looks like the Grizzlies could make him available at the trade deadline for the right return.

Jones could definitely be one of the better defenders that the Bulls go after at the deadline. He’s got a career 2.6 steal percentage with nearly a 1.0 defensive box plus/minus under his belt. That is definitely better defensively than what the Bulls could get out of Joseph, Schroder, or Williams, more often than not.

What really separates Jones from the rest of these potential trade targets for the Bulls, though, is the fact that he can also space the floor while being one of the better perimeter defenders among reserve guards in the Central Division.

I think the question for the Bulls concerning a potential deal with the Grizzlies to snag a young and versatile two-way point guard such as Jones is how much the Bulls would have to give up. Jones does have one year remaining on his current contract, making him an unrestricted free agent next summer.

This hypothetical trade deal might be a tough sell for the Grizzlies. But the Grizzlies are getting two players that can make a bigger impact right away for them in Coby and TBJ than the duo of shooting guard John Konchar and Jones. Thus, it might be a deal that the Bulls could pull off in the end.
