Bulls rumors: Lou Williams is a more proven and reliable scorer than Dennis Schroder
A name that would certainly be interesting for the Bulls to go after at the trade deadline is the veteran Atlanta Hawks scoring guard Lou Williams. The 35-year-old Memphis, TN, native and 16-year NBA veteran is likely a player that the Hawks are willing to shop at the trade deadline, which is why the Bulls should keep an eye on him.
It looks like the Hawks are trying to essentially completely rebuild around star point guard Trae Young heading into next offseason. The Hawks are definitely one of the teams in the East off to a disappointing start so far this season. That could place them in the role of a seller at the trade deadline next week.
In that case, Williams should be someone that the Bulls could nab from Atlanta at the deadline. Williams has only played in three-dozen games for the Hawks so far this season, averaging around just 15 minutes of playing time per game. That’s not as big of a role as Williams is used to, even in the last few years.
Moreover, the real value that Wiliams could bring to the table for the Bulls is twofold. The first is the fact that he could be another microwave scorer for the Bulls coming off the bench. The Bulls would have a real nice scoring duo off the bench in the backcourt unit between point guard Coby White and Williams.
And the second major reason why it makes sense to bring in Williams is with his proven scoring ability in the postseason. The three-time Sixth Man of the Year has played in just under 90 career postseason games. That included a run with the Los Angeles Clippers as recently as 2019 where he averaged around 22 points per game in the postseason.
This would also truly be a one-for-one player swap where the Bulls send out forward Troy Brown Jr. to the Hawks for a return of Williams.
