Bulls Rumors: The second trade that could bring Dennis Schroder to Chicago

It’s hard to find a clean player swap between the Bulls and Celtics that could realistically play out if either side wanted to add any other pieces into the trade. But there is one that could happen between the Bulls and Celtics hypothetically depending on how much Boston values the two-way shooting guard Josh Richardson at the trade deadline.

It seems like Richardson will be one of the players that the Celtics are shopping at the deadline this year, though. If that is truly the case, that could pose an intriguing trade prospect for executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley.

I personally like the idea of bringing Richardson to the Windy City if the Bulls are willing to add more pieces to this deal. Richardson is a capable on-ball and help defender, good floor spacer, and an active player off-ball when movement is needed on offense. The Bulls could use more of that amid some of the recent waves of injuries.

In this hypothetical trade deal, the Bulls are still sending TBJ to the Celtics. We’re just adding the likes of point guard Coby White and shooting guard Matt Thomas to the discussion.

What makes this deal work, in the end, is the fact that it could keep the Celtics from crossing the luxury tax threshold this season while giving them a valuable young guard in Coby.

Meanwhile, the Bulls get legitimate playoff-caliber depth in the second unit by adding both Richardson and Schroder to the backcourt unit. Giving up White would not be easy here. But it is worth it if the Bulls can bring in two versatile guards with postseason experience like Richardson and Schroder.
