Bulls Rumors: The first trade that could bring Dennis Schroder to Chicago

What seems to be the most straightforward trade that the Bulls and Celtics could do to get Schroder to Chicago is send forward Troy Brown Jr. to Boston. If there was a one-for-one player swap that saw TBJ go to the Celtics and Schroder go to the Bulls, essentially all the required details would work out on paper.

Once you dig into the context of why each team would want to get this trade deal done, though, you start to run into some potential issues.

First and foremost, it doesn’t look like the Celtics want to take on an equivalent salary for Schroder so that they don’t get held deep in the luxury tax. TBJ’s salary is roughly $1 million less in average annual value than Schroder’s. But that won’t do much to accomplish what the Celtics are looking to do by shedding Schroder’s salary.

Secondly, if the Celtics were to actually take on an equivalent salary to Schroder’s at the trade deadline this year, it would make more sense if it was someone that is a really good fit with what Boston is looking to do. That likely isn’t the case if they were to land TBJ in this hypothetical trade deal.

This potential player swap between the Bulls and Celtics was included on this list since it is certainly a possibility. But I also wanted to mention that I don’t think this is what would happen in reality at the trade deadline if Schroder does land with the Bulls by Feb. 10.
