Trade deadline targets the Chicago Bulls must avoid: Domantas Sabonis

Knowing that the Bulls are seeking help at the four to immediately upgrade their starting unit around the trade deadline this year, you would think that a potential trade target for them would be the Indiana Pacers star big man Domantas Sabonis. There are many issues that come up, though, when analyzing Sabonis as a potential trade target for the Bulls at any point in the near future.

It’s hard to ever see a top frontcourt duo of star center Nikola Vucevic and Sabonis really ever working out well. This would become a very clogged frontcourt unit for the Bulls and would clash with the style that second-year head coach Billy Donovan likes to run if this team had Sabonis and Vucevic playing together in the same starting unit.

Moreover, it also looks like the Pacers are asking for a lot for whatever team wants to get in trade discussions to land Sabonis. According to a report from Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype last week, the Pacers are seeking out a return on the trade block similar to what the Orlando Magic got from the Bulls for Vucevic last year. That is a lot to ask for.

Granted, setting that bar does make sense if the Pacers see a path forward continuing to build around a potential soon-to-be three-time All-Star in Sabonis. The Pacers do have plenty of trade chips to work with at the deadline this year including the likes of Sabonis, standout center Myles Turner, and wing Caris LeVert.

Some potential landing spots to watch out for Sabonis at the deadline include the Kings, Boston Celtics, and the Warriors.
