Chicago Bulls players that could be All-Star starters this year: DeMar DeRozan

If there is a virtual lock for the Bulls to have an All-Star starter in the festivities this year, it is going to be star forward DeMar DeRozan. This four-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA Team selection could be putting together the best season of his NBA career to date. And he’s doing that in just his first season in a Bulls uniform.

Playing in the All-Star Game is nothing new for DeRozan. But being an All-Star starter, a dark horse MVP candidate, and an All-NBA Team candidate is something that DeRozan hasn’t done nearly as much.

DeRozan’s numbers are just as impressive as the clutch gene he’s put on display so far this season. He’s averaging around 27 points per game, five rebounds, five assists, one steal, and 0.5 blocks while shooting 50 percent from the field, 33 percent from beyond the arc, and 86 percent from the free-throw line.

He also has multiple game-winning buzzer-beating three-pointers under his belt so far this season. DeRozan became the first player in NBA history to hit game-winning buzzer-beating three-pointers in back-to-back games, which happened just a few weeks ago.

All in all, DeRozan is essentially a lock to be an All-Star starter this year since he led all East guards in the fan voting. That was at least as of the final update from the NBA before voting closed last weekend. DeRozan held a pretty sizable lead at that point over the Atlanta Hawks star point guard Trae Young.

If there is any guard in the East that should be considered a “no-brainer” as an All-Star starter, it makes sense that it would be DeRozan. He’s clearly helped elevate this Bulls team in the first half of the season. And his numbers speak for themselves.
