Chicago Bulls: 2 studs, 1 dud from grueling win over the Thunder
A dud from the Chicago Bulls grueling win over the Thunder: Coby White
It’s not just this game that became a recent issue for the third-year former North Carolina Tar Heels point guard, Coby White. Coby hasn’t played very well for the Bulls dating back to their solid win over the Cleveland Cavaliers last week. After a hot stretch in the last month or so leading up to that meeting with the Cavs in the middle of last week, Coby has gone ice-cold shooting from the field.
At one point in this game, Coby was 1-of-21 shooting from beyond the arc dating back to the Cavs’ game. And his struggles continued on into this game against the Thunder.
While Coby did get more than 30 minutes of playing time off the bench in this game, he wasn’t very efficient on either end of the floor. He came up with just nine points on a poor 3-of-14 shooting from the field, 1-of-7 from beyond the arc, and 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.
Coby also gave the Bulls seven rebounds, seven assists, no steals, one block, and three turnovers as a -11 on the floor on this night.
At least the one three-pointer that Coby did make was at a key point in the game. He hit a three-pointer with less than four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter to keep the Bulls well ahead of the Thunder. Yet, the Thunder would wind up closing the gap to just a one-point lead for the Bulls a couple of minutes later.
With the Bulls so shorthanded for the next few weeks in the backcourt rotation, Coby is going to need to pick up his play. But most Bulls fans should know at this point that Coby is one of the streakier scorers/shooters in the NBA. Stretches like this are going to happen for him.
You just hope to minimize the damage in the process.
