Free agents the Chicago Bulls could sign after Alex Caruso’s injury: Justin Jackson

There are already two teams that gave the former North Carolina Tar Heels three-and-D wing Justin Jackson a chance on 10-day contracts earlier this season. The first was the Boston Celtics, who signed Jackson to a 10-day contract back in mid-December. But he only stuck around for around one week with the Celtics before they let him go.

Then, it was the Phoenix Suns that signed Jackson down to a 10-day contract in the midst of some issues with the health and safety protocol for them. The Suns signed Jackson to a 10-day deal back on Jan. 4. But the Suns also didn’t keep Jackson around for any longer than the 10-day contract.

Between his runs with the Celtics and Suns this season, Jackson averaged around just four points per game, two rebounds, no assists, no steals, and no blocks while shooting 63 percent from the field and 60 percent from beyond the arc. Jackson was good in very limited minutes off the bench in those four games.

What Jackson could bring to the table for the Bulls with Caruso out is a wing that could defend players with more size playing anywhere between the two and the four. Jackson also has the versatility to let Donovan make him very switchable coming off the bench.

Jackson obviously won’t play the same position as Caruso. But he can be a plug that tends to be a potent open shooter and a good switchable defender. There’s also a lot that Jackson can do that can help the Bulls make up for the losses of wing Javonte Green and forward Derrick Jones Jr.
