Free agents the Chicago Bulls could sign after Alex Caruso’s injury: James Ennis III

A player that was on the radar of the Bulls’ front office at one point last offseason is the former Orlando Magic sharpshooting wing/forward James Ennis III. This wing has the ability to be a premier floor spacer for the Bulls, even if there are some major limitations in his game otherwise.

If nothing else, the Bulls at least have some body of work to know what Ennis brings to the table from a few games he played this season on a 10-day contract. Ennis also signed with a team that executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas is familiar with. He was with the Denver Nuggets for a few games this season on a 10-day contract he signed earlier this month.

But the Nuggets didn’t keep Ennis around beyond that 10-day contract. That means that another team that has a wave of absences due to injury, the league’s health and safety protocol, etc. could give Ennis another shot.

In some very limited minutes with the Nuggets this season, Ennis still shot around 46 percent from the field and 38 percent from beyond the arc. That is the type of shooting numbers that would help the Bulls in the wake of this injury news to Caruso.

Ennis is also long enough to guard at the two or the three, taking certain matchups that Caruso did prior to this latest injury. As is the case with Cook, Ennis isn’t a perfect signing but the Bulls do know the value he brings to the table right away. There is value in knowing that.
