Lottery picks Ayo Dosunmu is showing up for the Chicago Bulls this season: Jalen Suggs

If we were putting together a list of the 2021 draft lottery picks off to the most disappointing starts this season, the Orlando Magic rookie point guard Jalen Suggs would have to be at or near the top. The former Gonzaga Bulldogs star two-way freshman point guard Suggs is also struggling for some similar reasons as to why Green is not having a great rookie campaign.

The fifth overall pick of the Magic in the 2021 draft lottery Suggs has missed some time lately due to injury issues. And he’s not performing at a very solid level on a consistent basis for the Magic out of the gates during his rookie campaign.

Suggs’ numbers are there in volume so far this season. But the efficiency is not coming along with it. He’s averaged 12.4 points per game, 3.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.4 blocks while shooting 36.3 percent from the field, 25.7 percent from beyond the arc, and 73.6 percent from the free-throw line.

The good news for Suggs and the Magic, though, is the fact that he’s playing solid defense. He’s at least got one major factor on his side that separates him from most of the rest of this rookie guard class.

Nonetheless, Dosunmu is playing winning basketball for the Bulls much more often than Suggs is for the Magic. That is evident in the fact that he’s got an astounding (not in a good way) -1.2 win shares so far this season.

Suggs has also registered one of the worst box plus/minus ratings so far this season for this rookie class, at a poor -5.7. While I do expect Suggs to rapidly improve down the stretch this season, and early next, the Bulls are obviously getting a lot more value out of Dosunmu out of the gates.
